Baby Chimp Held By Military Finally Feels Sun And Grass

A few months ago a young chimp was captured and held by soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Whilst looking for a buyer, the soldiers had tied him up in a small dark room, leaving him starving, malnourished and dehydrated.

He proceeded to pluck his arms clean of hair due to stress, and his skin became deathly pale due to the lack of sunlight. The rope you see tied to his leg in the picture below became embedded in his skin.

Fortunately a tip off from the Civil Society and GIZ, the little fellow was confiscated. According to The Dodo, a development worker convinced the colonel who was in charge to turn him over to wildlife management officials.
