Gertjie The Baby Rhino Loves Playing With His Favourite Rock

Gertjie, an orpahned baby rhino, was brought to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) on the 7th of May, 2014. Like so many other orphaned rhinos, he was found at the side of his dehorned mother. In the beginning Gertjie was’ inconsolable’ after having experienced the inhumanly cruel and devastating nature of poaching and the rhino horn trade.

Due to the incredible work being done at HESC, from such terrible beginnings Gertjie has been able to grow in strength and confidence and now loves a good bath, jog, and especially, a good rock to play with.
